Sussex Dolphin Project

Sussex Dolphin Project is committed to protecting local cetacean species through research, awareness and education.

The project works collaboratively with organisations and individuals to create a sightings network that feeds a Sussex-wide citizen science programme. This data is combined with the team's on-effort research to help identify individual dolphins and pods, and better understand their behaviour, movement, prey species and breeding sites. This data can then be used to protect the marine environment and ultimately safeguard Sussex marine mammals.

Sussex Bay is working with Sussex Dolphin Project, school teachers, pupils, and other partners to both establish a youth engagement programme and to enable students to complete research training in Sussex Bay if they cannot afford to travel overseas.

As well as its research role, Sussex Dolphin Project also focuses on educating the population of Sussex on the importance of a healthy marine environment and increasing opportunities for residents to get involved with marine conservation by providing affordable training.
